There Is Pain

This single was released on October 30, 2018. It presents my view that the United States needs to enact meaningful policies and regulations to combat gun violence in our country. I recorded this song at Tonehouse studios with Zan McLeod, who also played electric guitar, keyboards, drums, and bass; and Kristen Jones who sang the supporting vocals and played cello.

Dirty Little Pigs

This single was released on October 30, 2018 to urge US citizens to vote, particularly in the 2018 midterm elections to minimize the damage being done to the US and the world by the Trump administration. I recorded this song at Tonehouse studios with Zan McLeod, who also played bazouki, banjo, percussion, and bass; and Kristen Jones who sang the supporting vocals and played cello.

This single was released on August 17, 2015 to celebrate the 46th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair. I recorded this song at Tonehouse studios with Zan McLeod, who also played acoustic guitar, mandolin, percussion, and bass; and Michael Cohen who sang the supporting vocals.

Time to Dream

Released in June 2015. This collection of 15 songs includes a few provocative protest songs ("Too Great a Price", "The Real Casualty", and "American Dreams"), several love songs ("Love You So Much", "Until the Very End", "I Could Lose Myself"), a blues ("Love Ain't Easy"), a reggae tune ("Coral Cove"), and even a couple of songs for/about and inspired by my grand children ("I Dance", "Who I Am", "Here at Home"). Some of my lyrics are likely to make you laugh, others might make you cry; some of my melodies are likely to make you hum, snap your fingers, or dance! As was the case with my previous CDs, a number of wonderful musicians assisted me on this project. Foremost among them was Zan McLeod, who demonstrated his brilliance on the acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, and bass. We were joined by Be Steadwell and Sara Curtin, two incredible local talents who provided beautiful and creative supporting vocals, Chelle Fulk who added significantly to the emotional force of several tunes with her wonderful fiddle work, my regular play mates Michael Cohen (supporting vocals) and John Romero (harmonica), as well as Skye McLeod (drums), Mark Bruininga (keyboards), and Robbie Magruder (drums).

Just Remember

Released in October of 2005. This 13-song collection, includes contemporary folk songs similar to those by Jim Croce and James Taylor and down home country tunes evocative of Don Williams and Jonathan Edwards. In these songs, I explore the joys, humor, and sorrows of love and romantic relationships; lament the fragility of life and the threat of terrorists; and address some of the complexities of our war in Iraq and homelessness in the Untied States. The performers on Just Remember include: Zan McLeod (mandolin, guitar, bass, percussion, and keyboards), Mark Bruininga (keyboards), Mary Ann Redmond (background vocals), Bruce Swaim (saxophone and flute), Robbie Magruder (drums), Jon Carroll (piano, accordion, and background vocals), and Jason Byrd (vocals).

About You
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
8/15/04

Tell me your life story. Name everywhere you've been.
Specify the details. Give me the full description.
Let me hear your secrets. Reveal your inner thoughts.
Share all your beauty with me every minute of every hour.

I want to spend all my time with you
so you can teach me all there is to know
about you! I'm crazy about you! Crazy 'bout you!

I want to sense your emotions. I want to taste your soul.
I want to feel your moods. I want to go where you want to go.
So tell me where you're headed, what direction that you chose.
I'll do whatever you ask of me, share your purpose and your goals.

I want to spend all my time with you
so you can teach me all there is to know
about you! I'm crazy about you! Crazy 'bout you!

I plead with you to hear my call. I need your cushion to break my fall.
I have fallen completely. Come on baby show me some small sign.
I promise you I'll give you time to fall in love with me.

I'll name my former girlfriends. Reveal all my secret sins.
It's time for full disclosure, you need to hear about everything.
You can have my possessions if they'll bring you happiness.
I can't live without you. I truly am obsessed.

American Dream
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
7/2/06

Some say our nation's facing a serious threat
of being overrun by illegal immigrants.
They want to secure our boarder by building a wall;
Round up those who are here and send them home.
I don't think we should punish those who've done nothing wrong
except get paid too little for jobs nobody wants.
They clean our houses; they work our fields;
We leave our parents and children in their care.
So tell me how can we Americans send them back
when we boast that we're kind and compassionate?
All the migrants want is opportunity.
Why should we end their American dreams?

The ones who get here are the cream of the crop.
They're young and ambitious, they're eager to work.
They share our values and play by our rules
but they were born in the wrong part of the world.
So tell me how can we Americans send them back
when we boast that we're kind and compassionate?
All the migrants want is opportunity.
Why should we end their American dreams?

Think about it, they're just like us
except they were born with much less luck.
now they want to change their destiny.
We can't send them back!
We can't turn our backs
when we fueled their American dreams!

I can't imagine starting over again,
adopt a foreign culture, live apart from my kids,
have to learn a new language, accept any job,
and wanting it enough to risk it all.
So tell me how can we Americans send them back
when we boast that we're kind and compassionate?
All the migrants want is opportunity.
Why should we end their American dreams
when we fueled their American dreams?
Yes, we could share our American dreams!

Anybody Seen My Girl
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
1/8/05

Has anybody seen my girl?
She's got to be, gotta be some where in this world.
Please hear my prayer.
With long blonde hair and bright blue eyes,
I know for sure, she'll set my heart on fire.

Has anybody seen my girl?
She's got to be, gotta be some where in this world.
Please hear my prayer.
With emerald eyes and fiery red hair,
she'll have a passion for life and a penchant to care.

I won't stop searching cause I know she exists.
I believe I'll find her if I just persist.

Has anybody seen my girl?
She's got to be, gotta be some where in this world.
Please hear my prayer.
With hazel eyes and dark brown hair,
She'll bring me more pleasure with each passing year.

I know she'll love me cause I will insist that
I make her feel special. I'll be hard, hard to resist.

I've got to be, gotta be, gotta be, gotta be with that girl.

Has anybody seen my girl?
She's got to be, gotta be some where in this world.
Please hear my prayer.
With hair and eyes, the color of coal,
she'll keep me safe and happy and staying at home.

I'll always love her and I will resist
falling for others and I will promise her this.

Has anybody seen my girl?
She's got to be somewhere in this world.
Has anybody seen my girl?
She's got to be somewhere in this world.
Has anybody seen my girl?
She's got to be somewhere in this world.

Coral Cove
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
12/17/06

The sun is high in the Jamaican sky.
A soft breeze blows off the sea.
You can find a piece of paradise
in a town called Little Bay.

If you stay a week no need foe more
you can escape reality.
Just take a room at Coral Cove
where the drinks are always free.

Oh life here's good, no worries mon.
They'll supply whatever you need.
You can help yourself to what they have
and there's always good food to eat.

You can read your books and take your naps,
your swims and walks on the shore.
You can just relax then meet your friends
for some drinks at the bar

When the sun is down in that Jamaican town,
a soft breeze still blows off the sea.
There are no clocks in that paradise
until it's time to leave.

Dating Blues
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
8/21/06

I like to sing all kinds of songs
except for some about love
cause they remind me of all the gals
who left me for somebody else.

I must have dated a thousand girls,
had my share of one-night stands.
Every time that I fell in love,
they'd run off with another man.

I was looking for a love for life
while they just wanted to date.
I was hoping to find the gal
who was born to be my soul mate. Big mistake!

I was really good at saying hello
while they were better at good bye.
It didn't matter what I did;
They all left without explaining why.

Had I been handsome or filthy rich,
perhaps they would've kept me.
But something's wrong when it ain't enough
to be smart with personality.

Some of those gals were almost saints;
but few were blessed with good looks.
They all had less money than me
but they still gave me the hook.

I called them sweetheart, sugar, and hon,
told them I was in love.
They never listened to what I said;
My words seemed to scare them off.

I wonder if I made a mistake
by looking for a wife.
Maybe my dates were like interviews
for the mother of my child.

But that's not the end of my story
cause I finally met my girl
and now I can sing happy tunes
instead of those dating blues.
But that's not the end of my story
cause I finally met my girl
and now I can sing happy tunes
instead of those dating blues.

Dear Little One
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
10/9/2009

Dear little one, its time for bed.
Letís put your pajamas on.
You lie down and close your eyes
and Iíll sing you a sweet little song.

Under the blankets my dear little one,
its time to get your rest.
Iíll fluff up your pillow and tuck you in
and give you a sweet little kiss.

Mommy loves you! Daddy loves you! Now itís time to say goodnight.
Mommy loves you! Daddy loves you! And itís time to turn out your light.

In the morning the birds will sing
and ask you to come out to play.
The sun has promised to wake you up
and deliver a beautiful day.

Sweet dreams await my dear little one
so Iíll end this lullaby.
We had a wonderful day with you,
but Mommy and Daddy are tired. Mommy loves you! Daddy loves you! Now itís time to say goodnight.
Mommy loves you! Daddy loves you! And itís time to turn out your light.

Dirty Little Pigs
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
11/26/2016

Thereís a bitter taste in my mouth: a mix of fear and hate

born of the bad defeat when so much was at stake.
I feel a vast emptiness and a deep sense of loss.
I weep for our country as we cope with chaos.

The danger was real, yet many didnít vote.
Some were stopped at the polls, but most just stayed at home,
leaving those who felt abandoned and screaming for a change
to elect a con-man who said he felt their pain.
Now the actions of some affect us all
as the con-man runs his dirty little pigs through our castle.
Dirty little pigs, the con man and his dirty little pigs.

Ah, we didnít fight hard enough and now it seems too late
to change course, stem the tide, or try to educate
those prone to say theyíre victims of a system that is rigged
and willing to risk our way of life and standing with our friends.
We can hope our constitution with its checks and balances
will limit the power of the con man while heís the President,
Still, we all need to make the time to protest, and resist
and let our votes do our bidding every chance we get.

Yea, weíll fight to ensure our country continues to exist
and protect our castle from the con-man and his dirty little pigs,
his dirty little pigs, and his dirty little pigs,
dirty little pigs, the con-man and his dirty little pigs,
his dirty little pigs, little pigs, little pigs, the con-man and his dirty little pigs.

Weíll refuse to succumb to this administration,
reject its use of fear and intimidation,
denounce its acts of hate and discrimination, and
oppose what it might do to jeopardize our nation.
weíll support the programs that celebrate diversity,
laws enforcing racial and gender equality
policies demanding fairness and accountability,
and actions promoting peace and civility.

Yea, weíll fight to ensure our country continues to exist
and protect our castle from the con-man and his dirty little pigs,
his dirty little pigs, his dirty little pigs,
dirty little pigs, the con-man and his dirty little pigs,
his dirty little pigs, little pigs, little pigs, the con-man and his dirty little pigs.

Galapagos
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
8/20/08

Galapagos! See a natural order, Galapagos! in this enchanted land
where plants and creatures have found a balance and animals have no fear of man.

Thirteen islands bathed by waters north and south,
baked by the sun, some get rain, some suffer drought.
Born of volcanoes, six hundred miles off the coast,
most life arrived on something that could float.
You have to think of Darwin: how his study of the finch
suggested evolution with just weeks of evidence.
How this marvelous theory has stood the test of time
and explains why specie perish and survive.
Swim with penguins and talk with sea lions.
Walk on lava flows where iguanas look like stones
and pray that you'll never step on one.
Watch boobies, frigate birds, and sea lions play,
hawks command the skies, whales swim the seas,
owls hunting petrels that swarm on the coast, and
cliff jumping by albatross.

Galapagos! See a natural order, Galapagos! in this enchanted land
where plants and creatures have found a balance and animals have no fear of man.

Now we face a challenge to ensure nothing is lost,
to balance eco-tourismís benefits and costs.
We must preserve this beauty, give our children this great gift
So lend your support to the conservation efforts.

Galapagos! See a natural order, Galapagos! in this enchanted land
where plants and creatures have found a balance and animals have no fear of man.

Galapagos! See a natural order, Galapagos! in this enchanted land
where plants and creatures have found a balance and animals can teach so much to man.

Get My Reward
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
8/29/04

I work five times a week for eight plus hours a day.
Get only two weeks off a year to recharge my battery.
I live day to day and hand to mouth.
I fear eviction at the end of every month.

You know, working for the man, it ain't no fun.
Got too much to do and always on the run.
But I've got no choice; I've got to put in my time.
As a pawn of the system, I must tow the line.

If I'm lucky, I'll live a long life.
I may not prosper but at least I'll survive.
I'll go to work every day and do a good job.
Maybe in the next life I'll get my reward.
But, who knows? Who really knows?

I know I'm nothing special; just like all the rest.
Driving my body on that slow road to death.
One of many in the human race
who is still full of hope although losing faith.

I know there's no free lunch; in fact nothing is free.
There are no sure bets, nor any guarantees.
I only hope I get to keep what I earn.
I want no special treatment, just what I deserve.

If I'm lucky, I'll live a long life.
I may not prosper but at least I'll survive.
I'll go to work every day and do a good job.
Maybe in the next life I'll get my reward.

Hey, I deserve a future that's bright.
Liberty and happiness are both human rights.
I'm tired and restless and want a full life.
So I'll keep on working but I'm willing to fight.
Who knows? Who really knows?

No one said life is easy or said it is fair.
There's no sense complaining, no one hears or cares.
The more I work, the harder it gets
to enjoy my life and do my best.

If I'm lucky, I'll live a long life.
I may not prosper but at least I'll survive.
I'll go to work every day and do a good job.
Maybe in the next life I'll get my reward.
If I'm luck-y, I'll live a long life.
I may not prosper but at least I'll survive.
I'll go to work every day and do a good job.
Maybe in the next life I'll get my reward.
But, who knows? Who really knows?

Here at Home
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
1/3/2014

Iíve got a new brother whom every body loves.
Iíd like to smoother him with him kisses and hugs.
HeĎs not much trouble as he mostly likes to sleep
and cries only when he wants to eat.
Iíd like to find a game that we could play
or assist my parents with his care.
They say that I can help by picking up my toys;
I donít see what that does for our baby boy.

Daddy says I have to learn to be more quiet
since babyís got to sleep and mommyís feeling tired.
IĎd play outside if I knew other kids.
I wish I could watch TV instead.
But why should I complain, I have plenty of toys
and books to read, full of wonderful stories.
And since my brotherís here, Iíll try to be his friend.
I canít wait until I can play with him.

I knew thereíd be changes with a baby in the house,
but never thought itíd mean more playing by myself.
Now Iím not THE little one, the center of their world,
appears the day has come for me to be a big girl.
So while my life was better when every thing was mine,
Iíll adjust but it will take a little time.
My Mom and dad love me and keep me safe and warm.
Life is still pretty good here at home.

So while my life was better when every thing was mine,
Iíll adjust but it will take a little time.
My Mom and dad love me and keep me safe and warm.
Life is still pretty good here at home.

I could lose myself
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
7/9/2012

When day fades into night, shadows starve for light.
Itís in that calm, I reflect upon the fortunes of my life.
Iím rich because I cared and paid with countless tears
for the pleasure of a special love that should have lasted years.

A love that answered all my prayers, gave meaning to my life,
restored my sense of faith and hope and my will to survive.

As her time drew near, she conquered all her fears,
She made amends, tied up loose ends, and fulfilled her final needs.

A love that answered all my prayers, gave meaning to my life,
restored my sense of faith and hope and my will to survive.

I could lose myself in her eyes. I could lose myself in her smile.

I captured one last kiss before her final breath
and was left behind with peace of mind and memories that will last.

A love that answered all my prayers, gave meaning to my life,
restored my sense of faith and hope and my will to survive.
I could lose myself in her eyes. I could lose myself in her smile.

Although in the ground sheís still around as her spiritís always here.
I could lose myself in her eyes. I could lose myself in her smile.

I Dance
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
1/6/2012

When I hear music I begin to dance:
shake my body and clap my hands.
Once I feel that beat, IĎve got to dance.
First I circle, go round and round,
then stand in place and jump up and down.
Once I feel that beat, You know, IĎve got to dance.
I dance! I point a finger to the sky.
I dance! I slap my other hand on my thigh
When I hear music I canít help myself, Iíve got to dance.

I donít mind rap but get bored with goógo.
I prefer reggae and even disco
But, Iíll dance to any tune if itís not slow.

I might look crazy but I donít care
as long as its music that I want to hear.
Once I feel that beat, IĎve got to dance.
I dance! I point a finger to the sky.
I dance! I slap my other hand on my thigh
When I hear music I canít help myself, Iíve got to dance

I really dig hip hop if ití got soul
But still love classic rockín roll.
Hey, tunes can be good even if they are old.

I flap my arms, shake my legs.
These movements always bring a smile to my face.
Once I feel that beat, IĎve got to dance.
I dance! I point a finger to the sky.
I dance! I slap my other hand on my thigh.
When I hear music I canít help myself, Iíve got to dance.

I can be with friends or all alone,
if I hear music, I lose control.
Once I feel that beat, IĎve got to dance.
I dance! I point a finger to the sky.
I dance! I slap my other hand on my thigh.
When I hear music I canít help myself, Iíve got to dance.

I'm In Love With You
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
9/10/03

When I was young, I used to hit all of the clubs. I was looking for a beauty whom I could love.
Then I saw you across the room; from that moment I've been head over heals for you.
Our's was a case of love a first sight, passion interrupted with occasional fights.
But through the years the temperature's changed; I wish our love would come to a boil again. Cause
I'm still in love with you. My love's unconditional.
So I won't stop! No! I can't stop. Cause I'm in love with you.

Now in the mornings, you just jump out of bed even when loving feelings fill my head.
You never give me a goodbye kiss. Please tell what to do to fix this mess.
And in the evenings when I come home from work, you seem to ignore me and my feelings get hurt.
While I hate to admit it, I respond in kind. Please help me get us out of this terrible bind. Cause
I'm still in love with you. My love's unconditional.
So I won't stop! No! I can't stop. Cause I'm in love with you.
I'm still in love with you. My love's unconditional.
So I won't stop! No! I can't stop. Cause I'm in love with you.

I really don't believe things could get much worse. I'm praying we can brake and shift into reverse.
I just want your loving company and I'll do any thing you ask of me. Cause
I'm still in love with you. My love's unconditional.
So I won't stop! No! I can't stop. Cause I'm in love with you.
So I won't stop! No! I can't stop. Cause I'm in love with you.
Cause I'm in love with you. Cause I'm in love with you.
Cause I'm in love with you. Cause I'm in love with you.

It's Your Choice
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
5/18/2008

You can play in the game or stand on the sideline
as a fan or a coach.
Be an actor on the stage or one of the patrons.
Youíre the one who gets to pick your role.

You can watch or perform for the T. V. camera
every morning on G-M-A.
You can wave and clown, jump up and down for
less than 2 seconds of fame.

It's your choice!
Do you want to find the spotlight
or a shadow and remain unknown?
It's your choice!
Will you make or read the headlines
on the front page above the fold?

Well, you can join with the band or sit still and listen
from a seat in the auditorium.
Be a voice to be heard or noise in the system,
be the one who gets to call the tune.

Thereíll be times in your life when youíll take the lead
and others when youíll just follow.
And times when youíll just sit and watch
and cheer for the stars of the show.

It's your choice!
Do you want to find the spotlight
or a shadow and remain unknown?
It's your choice!
Will you make or read the headlines
on the front page above the fold?

Do what you want; do what you need; whatever you think is best.
Weight all you options, then make your choice and pray to have no regrets. Cause

It's your choice!
Do you want to find the spotlight
or a shadow and remain unknown?
It's your choice!
Will you make or read the headlines
on the front page above the fold?
Just remember, youíre the one who picks your role.
Donít complain, youíre the one whoís in control.

Joyful Tune
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
1/26/2008

I can feel good even when times are bad.
I can feel happy even when Iím sad.
Cause when I look at the blue sky and bright shining sun
I remember life should be fun.

I always try to win yet can accept a good loss
and know my wants come at too great a cost.
So Iíve learned to smile in between my tears
and find courage despite all my fears.

Some look at the ocean and see rocky shores.
I dream about sailing to faraway ports.
Some look at the sky and see only clouds.
I think about flying high off the ground.

I think about life, my ups and my downs,
the mistakes Iíve made, the successes Iíve found.
Iím now like a renter who never will own.
I care but Iíve ceded control.

Iíve learned to take chances and know how to dream.
Iíve found inspiration, my canvas to paint.
Now I walk in the forest by the light of the moon
while humming this joyful tune.

Some look at the ocean and see rocky shores.
I dream about sailing to faraway ports.
Some look at the sky and see only clouds.
I think about flying high off the ground.

I can feel good even when times are bad.
I can feel happy even when Iím sad.
Cause when look at the blue sky and bright shining sun
I remember life should be fun.
I remember life should be fun.

Just Remember
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
9/11/02

I don't ask you to forget the words I said.
I don't ask forgiveness for the actions I regret.
I just ask you to remember that
I loved you more than my life.

I know I didn't always treat you right.
I know we had more than our share of fights.
I just ask you to remember
we did share many good times.
Just remember I love you
and I can't imagine living without you.

I don't want to rain on your parade.
But I pray you'll reconsider the decision that you made.
And I pray you will remember
breaking up is so wrong if a love is still strong.
Just remember I love you
and I can't imagine living without you.

I can't promise I will always be kind.
I can't promise I'll give you more of my time.
But I promise I'll remember
I felt no greater pain as when I heard your lover's name.
Just remember I love you
and I can't imagine living without you.

Katrina
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
9/17/05

Given what happened, it seems insane
but folks from New Orleans had a thing for hurricanes.
They drank'em out of go-cups on Bourbon street
and the good times rolled while their city was laid to waste.

First reports suggested life was easy again.
The rain had been absorbed, they had handled the winds.
But the party never started as the levees gave way
and the city drowned in water from Lake Pontchartrain.

Katrina, you sent us a wakeup call.
Katrina, you may have knocked down our wall.
Katrina, You could've answered some prayers.
Katrina, We need to force our government to care!

While most fled the city, too many stayed.
Some were defiant, others couldn't escape.
They were bussed to the Superdome to face the hurricane.
Their challenge was survival, not some silly game.

They lacked food and water, no security was there.
They found Hell in New Orleans and no one seemed to care.
I saw it on my TV, I'll never forget:
those folks had been abandoned; those folks were left for dead.

The pictures told the story; they needed no words.
The evacuation plan was for the rich and not the poor.
Katrina tore the curtains back for all the world to see
America has a color!
America has a color!
America has a color to its poverty!

Now the cleanup's been finished; the scapegoat were blamed;
we have rebuild the city but can't erase our shame.
But there's a silver lining, no one liked what they saw.
May be now we can demand this problem be resolved.

Katrina, you sent us a wakeup call.
Katrina, you may have knocked down our wall.
Katrina, You could've answered some prayers.
Katrina, we need to force our government to care!
Now we need to force our government to care!
It's time to force our government to care!

Learn To Lie
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
5/19/03

Women make our lives entertaining.
We never know what they're going to do.
I advise you to stay on their good side young man.
If you cross one, heaven help you.
When she asks how she looks, just say “pretty”.
Tell her she's smart and desirable.
Never mention weight or wrinkles to a girl.
If you do, your life will be hell.

Men have only one lesson to learn.
Been true since the day we were born.
In the life-long battle of the sexes,
the women have al-ways won!
So forget about winnin' young man,
just learn to survive. Learn to keep quiet and learn to lie.

I hear there's a Russian proverb
that's guaranteed to make your marriage thrive.
When a husband's wrong, he should admit it
and keep quiet when ever he's right.
If she thinks it, a girl's going to say it.
There's no way she can hold her tongue.
If you think it, you better keep quiet young man.
If you don't, be prepared to run.

Men have only one lesson to learn.
Been true since the day we were born.
In the life-long battle of the sexes,
the women have al-ways won!
So forget about winnin' young man,
just learn to survive. Learn to keep quiet and learn to lie.

There's only one rule in the battle we wage
that you better never violate.
Since there'll be few woman who'll tickle your heart,
you can't afford to hesitate.
So make your move with confidence,
you must always make a choice.
For as bad as it is to lie and hold your tongue,
being alone is a whole lot worse.

Men have only one lesson to learn.
Been true since the day we were born.
In the life-long battle of the sexes,
the women have al-ways won!
So forget about winnin' young man,
just learn to survive. Learn to keep quiet and learn to lie.
if you wanna survive, you better learn to lie.
if you wanna survive, you better learn to lie.

Like a Carousel
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
1/10/2014

Oh, life is like a carousel: full of ups and downs.
No matter where you want to go, youíll spin round and round.
You know when you started; You donít know when youíll end.
So do your best to have some fun cause youíll never ride again.

Itís what you do along the way; all of the stuff you think and say.
Itís how you treat your friends, the love you give and then you get.
You donít have to get off until the music stops.

Mark your achievements of note, all of your wishes, dreams, and hopes,
the actions you regret and canít manage to forget.
You donít have to get off until the music stops.

Oh, life is like a carousel: full of ups and downs.
No matter where you want to go, youíll spin round and round.
You know when you started; You donít know when youíll end.
So do your best to have some fun cause youíll never ride again.

So make the most of every day; Take advantage of what comes your way
and know the ride is relevant, only if timeís well spent.
You donít have to get off until the music stops.

Riders receive no guarantees; no one skirts the one ride policy.
You get a fixed amount of time; You canít get back in line.
You donít have to get off until the music stops.

Oh, life is like a carousel: full of ups and downs.
No matter where you want to go, youíll spin round and round.
You know when you started; You donít know when youíll end.
So do your best to have some fun cause youíll never ride again.
So do your best to have some fun cause youíll never ride again.

Love Ain't Easy
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
4/24/2014

Romance has always been a challenge for young men
cause they confuse love with infatuation.
Their choices in women make no sense
as theyíre made by whatís in front of the seat of their pants.
Love ainít easy for young men.
Oh, nothing about a gal matters as much as her looks
to young men who like women who cherish mirrors more than books.
A pretty face with a feminine physique
will get guys to behave like animals in heat.
Love ainít easy for young men.

Well, some will get better as they age;
Theyíll make intelligent decisions not foolish mistakes.
Theyíll wed gals who take care of all their needs
who donít have to look like some kind of beauty queen.

On behalf of young men, I ask for your sympathy.
(not for me, Iím too old)
They can try to change, but their problem wonít go away.
They sing love songs that sound like the blues.
Theyíre trying to solve a riddle without any clues.
Love ainít easy for young men.

When they go to a bar by themselves,
they hope to go home with somebody else.
The lucky ones wonít wait for the last call
to have their standards relaxed by alcohol.
Itís tough when dreams face reality. (hmm, never happened to me)
Too much time is spent living in fantasy.
Young men donít have to quit the chase
but they need to look for love in the right way and place.
Woo, love ainít easy.
No, love ainít easy.
oh, love ainít easy for young men!

Love Me As I Am
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
8/4/04

Tell me that you love me
and I'll be yours for evermore.
Tell me that you need me
and I'll be waiting at your door.
Please tell me no lies. There's no need for alibis.
You either love me as I am or you don't.

You can have all my money,
just don't waste all my time.
Take anything else you want
but don't play games with my mind.
Please tell me no lies. There's no need for alibis.
You either love me as I am or you don't.

From the first moment I saw you,
I wanted you at my side.
And every minute that I spend with you
makes me want all your time.

If ever you're in danger, I'll help any way I can.
If your health should fail you, I'll be your medicine.
Please tell me no lies. There's no need for alibis.
You either love me as I am or you don't.
If you got lost in the wilderness,
I'd gladly follow you in.
If your boat was becalmed in the middle of a lake,
I'd blow you a good strong wind.
Please tell me no lies. There's no need for alibis.
You either love me as I am or you don't.

From the first moment I saw you,
I wanted you at my side.
And every minute that I spend with you
makes me want all your time.

My good days are better now
cause I'm blessed with thoughts of you.
I can face the worst of times.
You help me make it through.
Please tell me no lies. There's no need for alibis.
You either love me as I am or you don't.
Tell me that you love me
and I'll be yours for evermore.
Tell me that you need me
and I'll be waiting at your door.
Please tell me no lies. There's no need for alibis.
You either love me as I am or you don't.

Love Must Follow The Heart
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
4/3/2009

If we knew the pain of goodbye,
would we have said hello?
Would we surrender the thrill of our highs
to avoid the depths of our lows?
Had we kept count of the tears we cried,
we might have known it was time to go.
No one could ever say that we didnít try.
Itís just that loveís such a tough row to hoe.

Youíll go your way and Iíll go mine.
Seems so easy to say.
You take your stuff and Iíll take mine.
What we donít want, weíll just throw away.
You keep your friends and Iíll keep mine.
Some weíll just have to share.
No one could ever say that we didnít try.
Itís just that love demands much more care.

No oneís right; no oneís wrong;
no one is to blame.
To get on with the rest of our lives,
weíll just have to learn to live with this pain.

I donít know if we were better together
than weíll be when weíre apart.
But I believe we are both better off,
knowing love must follow the heart,
knowing love must follow the heart.

Love's the Reason
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
3/17/2009
Some people say that I am a lucky man.
I just try to do the best I can
to stay prepared for opportunities
and use the gifts that Iíve received.

While some were reared with a silver spoon,
all I have, I had to earn.
I refuse to accept defeat
and find the courage to compete.

Love's the reason that I can wear this smile on my face
Even in my toughest times, love brings me happiness!

So when I find myself in need,
I always get support from friends and family.
Never fails when the paymentís due,
it's love that pulls me through.

In the morning when sun comes up,
a sense of joy fills my cup.
And in the evening when the sun goes down,
I give thanks for the love Iíve found.

Love's the reason that I can wear this smile on my face
Even in my toughest times, love brings me happiness!

Some say that Iím a lucky man.
I must be given what I have:
a life of comforts, no unmet needs
and your sweet love for me
and your sweet love for me,
and your sweet love for me.

Love you so much
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
3/2/2014

Dear little one, the time has come
for you to start your great adventure.
I promise to show you everything I know
and try to keep you out of danger.

I will care for you,
watch and help you grow.
When you need me,
it will please me
cause I love you so .

Iíll give you space but save you a place;
In my life, youíre always welcome.
Near or far in my heart,
you can always claim a special feeling.

I will care for you,
watch and help you grow.
When you need me,
it will please me
cause I love you so much,

If you find when you climb,
there is nothing to hang on to
and you fall off your wall,
count on me to try to catch you.

I will care for you,
watch and help you grow.
When you need me,
it will please me
cause I love you so .

I know the day will come when youíll run
away from me to find yourself.
I concede Iíll never want you to leave
but know you must do what you need to.

I will care for you,
watch and help you grow.
When you need me,
it will please me
cause I love you so .
cause I love you so much,

Marvin's Tale
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
June 17,2004

On june the fourth, two thousand and four Marvin Heemeyer was on TV
slowly driving his armored bulldozer through buildings in Granby.
Marvinís tale is hard to believe but easy to understand.
He felt disrespected by the town and took matters in his own hands.

You see Marvin had this muffler shop in that tiny tourist town
next to the lot where Mountain Park Concrete
wanted to build a cement plant.
For four years, he tried to stop them
with support from some residents.
But in the end, the town council changed the zoning ordinance.
It ainít right; it ainít right; it ainít right.

So Marvin closed his business due to pollution from that plant.
Then he sold the shop for a very nice price
and obsessed about revenge.
For six months he planned and worked
to take his stand against the ďman.Ē
With his ďdozerĒ, heíd punish his foes for their arrogance.

First he crushed the town hall where the decision had been made
Then he drove his ďdozerĒ through each council memberís property.
Forty men failed to stop him though they fired two hundred rounds.
Those steel plates really did the trick:
he took thirteen buildings down.

Hey! Marvin Heemeyer, iíll say a prayer for you.
I believe you were crazy at least terribly confused
And you shouldíve known there are other ways
to bring your cause to light
and Bulldozing a town just ainít right.
It ainít right; it ainít right;
It ainít right; it ainít right; it ainít right

I understand why Marvin was angry and couldnít forgive or forget
that town leaders thought less of his life
than a factory that made cement.
Some folks called Marvin a hero; said he shouldnít be demonized
cause he stood up for what he believed in then paid with his life

But had he made it to the propane tanks,
many people could have died.
Then everyone there wouldíve cheered, not jeered,
the cops trying to end his life.
And when he bulldozed that town, he disrespected the other folks.
So you can call Marvin whatever you want
but donít say he was a hero.

Hey! Marvin Heemeyer, iíll say a prayer for you.
I believe you were crazy at least terribly confused
And you shouldíve known there are other ways to bring your cause to light
And you shouldíve known there are many ways to wage a lawful fight
And you shouldíve known no one would care a lick about your life and
Bulldozing a town; bulldozing a town; bulldozing a town. Just ainít right.
It ainít right; it ainít right. it ainít right (no no no no)
It ainít right; it ainít right; it ainít right (no no no no)
It ainít right; it ainít right; it ainít right (no no no no)
It ainít right; it ainít right; it ainít right
It just ainít right!

Pandora's Box
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
1/16/2009

Iíve never been a rebel or started any fights.
My life has been scripted by societyís desires.
Iíve walked the straight and narrow and played by the rules
but too many people always tell me what to do.

Iíve got to make my move and wonít look back.
Itís time to take control of my life.
Iíve obeyed all the red lights and signs saying stop.
Itís time to open Pandoraís box.

Iíll still pay my taxes, avoid games involving dice.
But might finally tell my boss to take a hike.
Iíll look for my challenge and give it my best,
but I want to go to parties on the night before the test.

Iíve got to make my move and wonít look back.
Itís time to take control of my life.
Iíve obeyed all the red lights and signs saying stop.
Itís time to open Pandoraís box.

My choices havenít always been black and white.
Some were made in shades of grey.
Iíve met expectations by playing it safe.
Itís time to start some fights I want to win.

Iíve got to make my move and wonít look back.
Itís time to take control of my life.
Iíve obeyed all the red lights and signs saying stop.
Itís time to open Pandoraís box.

There are many things in this life Iíll always have to do.
While Iím no genius, I can name a few.
Iíll remember my loveís birth date and Valentines day,
and give her champagne and flowers on our anniversary.

Iíve got to make my move and wonít look back.
Itís time to take control of my life.
Iíve obeyed all the red lights and signs saying stop.
Itís time to open Pandoraís box.

Pass Me the Bottle
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
6/13/73

Oh give me that whiskey, that weird tasting whisky,
the stuff, we all brewed by ourselves.
Been drinking since morning, be drunk 'til tomorrow
when I'll get up and drink it again.

So pass me the bottle friend, it's my turn to drink.
Pass me the bottle, friend, it's my turn to drink.

Let's call up some honeys and throw them a party,
one they'll never forget.
We may get arrested, some of our heads busted,
if the whiskey doesn't do us in instead.

So pass me the bottle friend, it's my turn to drink.
Pass me the bottle, friend, it's my turn to drink.

The stereo'll be blasting, there'll be beer bottles smashing.
If the cops come, we'll head for the hills.
We know they don't like us but that doesn't frighten us.
We just hope they don't find and wreck our still.

So pass me the bottle friend, it's my turn to drink.
Pass me the bottle friend, it's my turn to drink.

Shadow of the Bomb
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
2/2/02

I used to be a puzzle especially to my younger friends.
My actions and my thoughts never made much sense to them.
My explanation was simple. I blamed it on the bomb.
While I was never near one, it affected all I've ever done.

The bomb was so consuming as a kid I had a plan
for what I'd do in the time it'd take for Red Rockets to reach our land.
This viewpoint wasn't crazy. You need to understand.
I could've known the people who dropped the big one on Japan.

I grew up in the shadow of the bomb.
Talk about your troubles, it affected everyone.
I practiced running for shelter and hiding in my basement,
put up food and water; learned to say my final prayers.

In my youth I tried drugs and religions from the East;
Toyed with meditation, sought free love, and pleaded peace.
I danced and drank my nights away while waiting for the bombs to fall.
While everything always meant something, nothing mattered much at all.
Through the years I'd begun to cope much better with my fears
as the risk of bombs seemed less when the Red threat disappeared.
Now I feel like a fool having dreamt that the violence would stop.
My dreams again are nightmares. I wait for bombs to drop. You know:

I grew up in the shadow of the bomb.
It nurtured me on terror, colored every thing I've done.
I learned to make preparations for living underground
To ensure my own survival if bombs came raining down.

I grew up in the shadow of the bomb.
It nurtured me on terror, colored every thing I've done.
So while many are new to darkness, I'm comfortable with clouds.
Still I pray for no reminders that bombs are all around.

Something To Remember You By
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
1/29/06

At first it was just strangers and then it was my friends.
It's hard to accept I'll never see them again.
My sense of loss keeps mounting; I'm feeling despair.
I've traded in too many smiles for too many tears.

I know sooner or later we all get our ticket punched but
find no comfort in thoughts of returning to ashes and dust.
I want more from life.
At least your spirit should survive
Something to remember you by.

It wasn't all that long ago my life was fun and games
but now my attention's focused on life's end.
Whether random and fast or predictable and slow,
all deaths are more disturbing to me now I'm growing old.

I know sooner or later we all get our ticket punched but
find no comfort in thoughts of returning to ashes and dust.
I want more from life.
At least your spirit should survive
Something to remember you by.

These thoughts move me to tears; instill me with fear.
Now, I'm terrified, almost paralyzed,
with the thought that I too will die.

Cancer, heart disease, accidents, and war,
No one escapes, death finds the rich and poor,
good and bad, fit and fat, old as well as young.
We're born with a date to be a victim.

I know sooner or later we all get our ticket punched but
find no comfort in ashes to ashes or that dust to dust stuff.
I want more from life.
At least your spirit should survive
Something to remember you by.
Something to remember you by.
Something to remember you by.

Stuck in Iraq
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
1/16/05

Sitting with some buddies, we were all drinking beer
and watching the game, it was that time of year.
We were talking 'bout nothing just fooling around
when this soldier stood up and brought us all down. He said:

Even soldiers from the blue states bleed red.
There are many more injured than dead.
We shouldn't still be there, but can't turn our backs.
We won the damn war, but we're stuck in Iraq!

Now it's less a mistake than a crime. To undo what we've done will take time.
They'll never forget us; they'll hate even more
and we thought their freedom was worth waging this war. We know:

Even soldiers from the blue states bleed red.
There are many more injured than dead.
We shouldn't still be there, but can't turn our backs.
We won the damn war, but we're stuck in Iraq!

Should your boys be on foreign soil fighting for rich guys who profit from oil?
These times are troubled bad stuff's going down.
Seems evil is winning the Lord's letting us down.

Ah, the game wasn't fun any more.
While we all kept watching, no one knew the score.
We just sat there in silence drinking warm beer,
praying for peace while holding back tears. You see:

Soldiers from all states bleed red.
There are many more injured than dead.
They didn't find the weapons that launched our attack.
Still our soldiers are dying in this war in Iraq.
Still our soldiers are dying in this damn war in Iraq.

Teach Me Your tango
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
12/24/08

When I look in your eyes, I see the tears that youíve cried.
Sensing all of your loss, youíve loved at too great a cost.

Feeling all of your pain, with nothing to take it away.
Have you so little left, youíre hanging on by a thread?

Teach me your tango. I will share your steps.
Teach me your tango. Iíll lay your heartache to rest.

Knowing all of your fears, how can I show you I care
when my words arenít enough to show my love for you?

Teach me your tango. I will share your steps.
Teach me your tango. Iíll lay your heartache to rest.

Spin, stomp, twirl and jump, teach me your dance.
Kick, glide, spin and slide: an Argentine romance.

Teach me your tango. I will share your steps.
Teach me your tango. Iíll lay your heartache to rest.

Forgive and forget. Put your love to the test.
Your future is bright if you dance through the night with me!

Teach me your tango. I will share your steps.
Teach me your tango. Iíll lay your heartache to rest.

Spin, stomp, twirl and jump, teach me your dance.
Kick, glide, spin and slide: an Argentine romance.

The Answer Is Yes
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
11/27/03

Tell me why do women ask if you love them,
when they know your love is true.
And why do they ask if you miss them,
even when they're still with you?
It shows their need for love and affection
and not a loss of confidence.
To me it seems a little bit silly but
that's the price that men should expect
Would it help for us to say that we love them?
The answer is yes!

Tell me why do women ask if they look nice,
when they know we can't say No.
And why ask if we look at other women,
if they don't really want to know?
It shows their need for love and attention,
it doesn't need to make any sense.
To me it seems a little bit silly but
that's the price that men can't reject.
Would it help for us to say that we love them?
You know the answer.
You know the answer.
You know the answer.
You know the answer.
You know the answer.

Some folks claim that women come from Venus
while men come from Mars.
I know we fight whenever we're together
but we can't seem to stay apart. You see:
women have this need for love and commitment
while men would rather have sex.
To me it seems a little bit silly
but that's the price that we all accept.
Would it help for us to say that we love them?
You know the answer:
The answer is yes! The answer is yes!
The answer is yes! The answer is yes!

The Real Casualty
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
2/10/2012

Lost my job and despite my daily search,
Iím totally discouraged as the marketís getting worse.
Iíve got no leads and havenít had a prospect,
yet Iíve exhausted my unemployment benefits.
Iím a victim of a bad economy.
Iím more than a statistic.
Iím the real casualty.

I sleep wherever that I can
cause I canít afford to pay any rent.
Iíd go hungry but for the food
I get from the tables of friends like you.
Iím a victim of a bad economy.
Iím more than a statistic.
Iím the real casualty.
I wish all the fat cats could get a chance to walk a mile in my shoes.
I bet theyíd quickly fix this mess given all theyíd have to lose.

I gaveím forty-plus hours a week
for almost thirty years.
Then just as the bad times came along,
they drew the curtains on my career.
I worked hard just to make ends meet;
I never managed to save
cause every time I put a little away,
a surprise bill had to be paid.
Iím a victim of a bad economy.
Iím more than a statistic.
Iím the real casualty.
I wish all the fat cats could get a chance to walk a mile in my shoes.
I bet theyíd quickly fix this mess given all theyíd have to lose.

I want respect, to restore my self-worth
and regain my dignity through my work.
I want my efforts & productivity
to count for more than ambition and greed.
I want to be paid an amount thatís fair,
more fruits of my labor need to be shared.
Iím not alone; Iíve got many friends.
Youíll recognize them as the 99 percent.
And weíre the victims of a bad economy.
Weíre more than statistics.
Weíre the real Casualties! Tragedies!
Change must come without further delay
cause weíre losing our will to control our rage
You better beware! You better beware! Better beware!

Their Numbers
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
2/2/02

When the leaves have all fallen and temperatures start dropping,
our leaders call us to help.
They beg coats and blankets, our help with a banquet,
for the people who live on the streets.
They make me feel so bad; make me feel very sad.
Although there have always been men
who've lived on the streets with no shoes on their feet,
now their numbers are growing again.

Why do they do this, and yes some do choose it.
They shun our appeals, shut us out.
They seek isolation, to our great frustration.
We must find a way to give help.
They make me feel so bad; make me feel very sad.
And now I see young women,
who live on the streets, huddle on grates for heat,
and their numbers are growing again.

So, please help me help them.
We've got to make them understand.
I know we can make a difference, if everyone will lend a hand.

I wish I could help them: provide food, warmth, and shelter.
It would do good for them and for me.
I don't understand them but will honor their decisions
to live on the streets and be free.
They make me feel so bad; make me feel very sad.
I 'm mad now to see some children,
who live on the streets, pick trash so they can eat,
and their numbers are growing again.

So, please help me help them.
We've got to make them understand.
I know we can make a difference, if everyone will lend a hand.

They make me feel so bad; make me feel very sad.
It's not right for any human,
to live on the streets, have too little to eat,
and their numbers are growing again.

So, please help me help them.
We've got to make them understand.
I know we can make a difference, if everyone will lend a hand.

The Is Pain
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
2/8/2014

A policeman finished work and then went home.
His house seemed empty but the lights were on.
Hearing screams from upstairs, he pulled his gun.
He didnít hesitate to respond.
He shot with the goal of saving a life
but he murdered his child who was killing his wife.
No time to think, just time to react,
heíll feel guilty forever for both of those deaths.

A politician who loved his troubled son,
had just gotten rid of all but one of his guns.
When he learned his son had stopped taking his meds,
he tried to get him help, but couldnít find him a bed.
So, he took him home and called it a night.
That son attacked his father in the morning light.
Wounded him so badly with a knife,
he felt to compelled to use that gun to take his own life.

There is pain, whether cause or effect.
There is pain, controlling life and death.
There is pain, we need to understand:
Itís not enough to keep guns out of the wrong hands.
We must do more for our family and friends.

A soldier who had never fought in a war,
his discharge was marked as honorable,
secured a job at the Navy yard,
got his clearance before voices clouded his mind.
Soon problems at work became trouble with life.
So he bought a gun and contemplated suicide.
He shot some coworkers instead himself.
He had assigned that task to somebody else.

An N-F-L player found fortune and fame
as a peaceful man playing a violent game.
But blows to the head madeím more prone to fight
and argue with teammates, friends, and his wife.
Then one day he flew into a rage,
his threats turned into a lethal mistake.
He shot himself, saying he just couldnít cope
as he apologized for killing his wife to his coach.

There is pain, whether cause or effect.
There is pain, controlling life and death.
There is pain, we need to understand:
its not enough to keep guns out of the wrong hands.
We must do more for our family and friends.

We have to find a remedy
by following a different strategy
to help those who struggle with control
due to mental illness, drugs, and alcohol.
We can keep our guns locked away
but that doesnít really keep us safe from the pain.

Oh, I need to say what I think should be done
to change the path that weíve been on.
Forget bad guys, theyíll always have guns
and donít focus just on people who are mentally ill.
If our goal is really protecting ourselves,
letís begin by making guns less accessible.
Prevent good guys from making bad mistakes
that result in death and lives full of regret.

We know our guns kill more good guys by accident
than bad guys committing criminal offenses.
Thereís an army of industry lobbyists
making life and death decisions for the rest of us.
Its time to put our guns away
and hope they will then keep us safe

from the pain, whether cause or effect.
There is pain, controlling life and death.
There is pain, we need to understand
its not enough to keep guns out of the wrong hands.
We must do more for our family and friends.

The Rising Tide
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
6/11/05

A broken gate, a rusted wheel,
that's how my baby made me feel
when she said goodbye to me.
I don't know what I did wrong.
Perhaps we were just together too long.
I know even good things must come to an end.

I don't know if there's anymore to say.
I don't know what else to do.
I pray my stars will realign
and my spirit will lift with the rising tide.

You might know what I'm going through;
If not, don't walk these my shoes.
This is a lesson I hope you'll never learn.
You see me now in my darkest hour
smelling only funeral flowers.
It's hard to believe I'll ever smile again.

I don't know if there's anymore to say.
I don't know what else to do.
I pray my stars will realign
and my spirit will lift with the rising tide.

Birds sang! The sun shined! We enjoyed a very good life!
Trouble seldom stopped at our door.
We danced! We played! Nothing ever got in our way!
Together we lived the good old days.

Dealing with this loneliness
isn't one of my great strengths.
So I'm glad we've had this chance to talk.
I don't know what I would do, if I didn't have friends like you
who were willing to make the time for me.

I don't know if there's anymore to say.
I don't know what else to do.
I pray my stars will realign
and my spirit will lift with the rising tide,
and my spirit will lift with the rising tide.

Time To Dream
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
6/13/2013
As a teen, June was my favorite month cause it marked the end of school:
a time of fun and freedom. My only goal was keeping cool.

Most days I stayed in bed all morning then made my way to the pool,
where I managed to get nothing done, except for watching pretty girls.

That routine was never boring for me and the weather seldom changed;
so I had only one problem to solve: avoid the sun yet get a tan.

I enjoyed my school vacations. I relished having time to dream.
And, I always thought it was heaven to wakeup without hearing an alarm clockís scream.

Oh, swimming was one way to fight the summer heat. Another was frozen delights.
I remember listening for the good humor truck after dinner every single night.

I tried fudgicles and softserve yogurt, Ice cream bars and popsicles.
But my preference was consistently: a waffle cone with a double scoop.

I enjoyed my school vacations. I relished having time to dream.
And, I always thought it was heaven to live on a diet that featured ice cream.
I enjoyed my school vacations. I relished having time to dream.
And, I always thought it was heaven to wakeup without hearing an alarm clockís scream.
And, I always thought it was heaven to live on a diet that featured ice cream.
a diet that featured ice cream. Uhhmm!

Too Great a Price
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
12/18/12

Iím nothing special, just a face in the crowd, a normal American,
who knows the recent violence indicts our policy not the history of guns in our land.
My ancestors left their homes for our shores seeking opportunity,
lacking the means to fight oppression and secure their liberty.

Their survival depended on the guns they had for hunting and protection,
and they used those guns to defeat the Brits in their war for independence.
When our leaders gathered to consider their needs, they still felt the sting of tyranny.
So in the second amendment, they granted the right to bear arms to the citizenry.

They didnít just talk the talk, they did what was right!
Theirs was a noble cause; their goal to survive!
They walked the walk and talked the talk, they sacrificed!
They knew they needed guns in their lives.

In 1812, our brothers needed those guns to rebuff a foreign force,
intending to punish the eighteen states for winning the war it lost.
When my cousins in the northern and southern states waged our bloody civil war,
sadly those guns enabled each side to attack with a mighty killing force.

But after that war, those guns in the hands of many of the newly-freed slaves
thwarted the murderous intentions of the emerging KKK.
So I donít challenge our forefatherís views of guns; they needed them to survive.
But I wonder: if kids being murdered in schools would make them change their minds?

They didnít just talk the talk, they did what was right!
Theirs was a noble cause; their goal to survive!
They walked the walk and talked the talk, they sacrificed!
They knew they needed guns in their lives.

Oh, Iím nothing special just a voice in the choir calling for greater controls,
as I canít seem to stop my crying for victims Iíll never know.
We can argue right and wrong and heatedly debate the merits of guns in our homes,
but now we all just need to agree: doing nothingís not an option any more.

We canít just talk the talk, we need to do whatís right!
Our guns served a noble cause; our nation survived!
Letís walk the walk and talk the talk. We need to sacrifice!
Itís time to get the guns out of our lives;
Cause our guns now cost too great a price.

Too Many Questions
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
6/15/04

Too many options and too much choice.
What star should you use to guide your life?
Do you feel too free too much of the time?
Got too many questions on your mind?
Do you wish you had a crystal ball
so you'd know in advance where the pins will fall?
But no one knows when the moment is right
to cash in the chips and call it a night.
I don't know what you should do
but I know this question will be answered by you.
I have faith in you!

So don't ask how you'll know if love's so true
you can end your search for that special girl.
Or if you should move or if you should stay
or keep your job or fix your resume?
Hit the road and say goodbye or how's a young man supposed to decide?
Any one can give their advice,
only time will tell if they're wrong or right.
I don't know what you should do
but I know this question will be answered by you. I have faith in you!

I see you're struggling to decide what to do.
I know you're feeling a bit dazed and confused.
But you need to wakeup and get back in touch.
It's time to see life like an optimist,
like a gambler who's blessed with luck.
Hell! You're just a boy who's fallen in love.

People seem to think you're supposed to know
what you're going to do when you get old.
That's a view I've never understood
cause so few plans turn out to be good.
Life could be a series of mistakes
but you can't seek the comfort of yesterday.
No one can say what you should do,
there are no magic words or secret clues.
And I don't know what you should do
but I know this question will be answered by you.
Hell, I don't know what you should do.
But I know this question will be answered by you.
But I know this question will be answered by you.
But I know this question will be answered by you.
I have faith in you!

Until the Very End (Anniversary)
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
1/8/12

Youíre my finest treasure: What I love the most.
To live my life without you, would be a tragic loss.
Donít expect me to be perfect. Iíll slip along the way.
But not for lack of effort nor an absence of care.

I will always love you, forever be your friend.
And weíll spend our lives together until the very end.

If a challenge overwhelms you, Iíll give you confidence,
and in your times of weakness, Iíll supply you with strength.
Iíll be a source of courage when you are afraid.
Iíll provide you refuge when your safetyís under threat.
I will always love you, forever be your friend.
and weíll spend our lives together until the very end.

weíll always be lovers and the best of friends.
So I know weíll stay together through thick and thin.

When you promised to be faithful, I did the same.
Though we needed room to grow as the two of us did change.
When we took those solemn vows in front of friends and family
We found the support that every marriage needs.

I will always love you, forever be your friend.
I still need you in my life so I offer you my hand.
And if youíll always love me, forever be my friend.
I still want you as my wife, until the very end.

weíll always be lovers and the best of friends.
So I know weíll stay together through thick and thin.
Weíll always be lovers and the best of friends.
So I know weíll stay together until the very end.

Urge to Roam
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
3/30/05

Late in my teen--age years, I developed this urge to roam.
Unlike the men in search of work who traveled from town to town,
and those escaping the draft who were always on the go,
I just read Kerouac and decided it was time to hit the road

I felt adventurous and wanted to see the world.
As I didn't have the fare for a bus, I decided to use my thumb.
I showed a sign and offered a smile to every car that came my way.
I also schemed, and said my prayers that I'd travel on warm sunny days.
I had a restless soul I needed to get up and go.
I felt the urge to hit the road.

It wasn't long before I had my fill and put my wanderlust to bed.
I'd always met interesting folks but had a few close calls with death .
There was an angry school dropout who just happened to have a gun
and a stoned hippie kid who played chicken in his car for fun.

So I tossed my signs aside and set out to start my life.
I settled down and found a job and eventually met my wife.
My travels had been wonderful but the price was way too high
as I risked nearly everything every time I accepted a ride.
I had a restless soul I needed to get up and go.
I felt the urge to hit the road

Every Spring I still feel the need to set my spirit free,
to quit my job, prepare a sign, and put my thumb out on the streets.
I'm glad to say that I have learned to resist this urge to roam
cause my grass is always long and green and there's no place for me like home.
I had a restless soul I needed to get up and go.
I felt the urge to hit the road.

What Love Was About
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
9/4/04 I dream about the days gone by
and all the girls who made me cry.
They never seemed to understand
I could've ended their search for a really good man.
Girls wanted bad boys when they were teens.
Later it was rich guys with diamond rings.
Time has shown they made a big mistake.

I was naive and felt so free.
I gave my love too easily.
They were taught to play defense.
They were frightened off by my openness.
I tried to make it crystal clear
my intentions were honest and sincere.
I thought playing the field was supposed to be fun.
Make them cry for me. Turn them green with envy.
Make them pay the price. Blind them with the light.
Make them realize I was the best love of their life

I know that they were concerned
about guys who were just playing around.
That wasn't me, I couldn't understand
how they failed to make that distinction.
Now I believe the tide has changed,
it's time for them to feel my pain.
They never knew what love was about.
Make them cry for me. Turn them green with envy.
Make them pay the price. Blind them with the light.
Make them realize I was the best love of their life.

Don't be mean! Don't be cruel!
I just want them to know that the tables have turned.
They had their chance but that time has passed.

I think about the girls I've known
and all the things that I could have done.
Had I not been in such a state,
I could've spent my time in much better ways.
Now I have you by my side, all my wounds feel alright.
I realize now I never knew what love was about.
Make them cry for me. Turn them green with envy.
Make them pay the price. Blind them with the light.
Make them realize I was the best love of their life.

Who I Am
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
7/12/2011

I wish that I could fly high up in the sky;
Like an eagle, I would like to soar and glide.
A birdís life could be fun but then Iíd have to eat worms.
Iím satisfied with who I am.

I wish that I could climb and swing in trees on vines.
Life like a monkeyís could be fine,
but sleeping in the jungle sounds like it could be trouble.
Iím satisfied with who I am.

My mom and dad have always encouraged me
to believe that I can be whatever I want to be.
So I indulge myself in my dreams;
I imagine being many wild and crazy things.

I wish that I could swim as well as I walk on land
like a walking talking ocean-bound amphibian.
Iíd be okay with gills and fins but couldn't live with slimy skin.
Iím satisfied with who I am.

I can do many things in my dreams
that are not possible for human beings,
but living as an animal wouldn't be desirable.
Iím satisfied with who I am.

My mom and dad have always encouraged me to believe
that I can be whatever I want to be.
So I indulge myself in my dreams;
I imagine being many wild and crazy things.

I love to tell jokes and say funny things
like robots take their baths in washing machines.
I can be silly and make everybody laugh with me.
Iím satisfied with who I am.

I enjoy simple songs and will always sing along.
This is what we sing at the pick-your-own farm.
ďOne in the bowl and one for me,
thatís how we pick blueberrieezzz.Ē
Iím satisfied with who I am.

Iím really naive and like to make believe.
IĎm just learning the boundaries of reality.
So my imagination can be very entertaining.
Iím satisfied with who I am.

Iím still very young and just want to have fun,
I can be a real challenge for my dad and mom.
Iíll be less bold as I grow old and do only what i am told. Maybe!
Iím satisfied with who I am.

My mom and dad have always encouraged me
to believe that I can be whatever I want to be.
So I indulge myself in my dreams;
I imagine being many wild and crazy things.
Iím satisfied with who I am. Iím satisfied with who I am.
Iím satisfied with who I am. Iím satisfied with who I am.

Woodstock or Bust
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
6/11/2015

At the dawning of the age of Aquarius,
my brother and I were Woodstock or bust.

The summer of í69 was heating up.
Their war in Vietnam was teariní our country apart.
I was just seventeen and feeling distressed
about getting my number for the draft.

Then my brother found a flyer at a local coffeehouse
for a festival of peace, music, and love,
some where in New York near a town named White Lake.
It didnít matter; we were going; I needed a break.

So we bought a pair of tickets for the three-day show
then tried to recruit some friends to go.
We didnít own a car and needed a ride
Cause we doubted we could get there if we had to hitch hike.

We got lucky as a friend had room for us
in his antique Volkswagon bus,
thatíd seen too many miles to warrant our trust
and had a body that seemed less metal than rust.

As I thought it was important for the world to know,
I revealed our destination on the rear window.
Etched with my finger in the dirt and dust,
three simple words: Woodstock or bust.

We were Woodstock or bust in search of peace and love
in a flower power, psychedelic hippy bus.
At the dawning of the age of Aquarius,
my brother and I were Woodstock or bust.

oh, we arrived early so we could see every band
and were surprised to find the grounds crowded with fans.
We sat for hours as folks finished the stage,
then went crazy when Richie Havens played.

Ah, we sat in the sun then under moon-lit skies.
We baked in the day then froze at night.
We shared what we had with folks we didnít know.
We sang and danced and passed around the smoke.

As I look back now at the notes that I took,
scribbled in my little brown book.
They stir my memories of that time and place
and helped the Bethel Woods museum confirm the order of play.

I remember Pete Townshend as he used his guitar
to remind Abbie Hoffman who was really the star.
I recall Jimi Hendrix was the final act
and thinking as he shred the anthem and we were walking back

to the bus to start our long ride home
that on that muddy field, a nation was born,
and those in attendance would never be the same.
As citizens of Woodstock, we saw the world could change.

There were thousands like us in the rain and mud,
listening to the music we knew and loved,
who wouldnít be deterred and couldnít get enough
and were proud to have been Woodstock or bust.

We were Woodstock or bust in search of peace and love
in a flower power, psychedelic hippy bus.
At the dawning of the age of Aquarius,
my brother and I were Woodstock or bust.

Had I known that we would make it, my message would have read:
Weíre the children of the age of Aquarius.

Yeh Mon
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
12/15/06

Jamaicans love to party; They have a real joie de vivre.
They'll fill you with rum smoothies Made with fruit from nearby trees.
They'll get you singing and dancing all night long with their energy.
But at some point, the music will stop and you'll have to face reality.

You'll start to make conversation
and soon you won't understand.
In preparation for that time,
you just got to learn to say:
Yeh mon! Do you want to start a party?
Yeh mon! Do you want to dance?
Yeh mon! Do you want to sing a song?
Yeh mon! Do you want romance?

Being rich isn't measured in money. Here inner beauty counts.
They're satisfied with family, good friends, and steady work.
Folks appear to be happy; They make do with what they have.
Hand to mouth here, day to day doesn't seem to be so bad.

You'll start to make conversation
and soon you won't understand.
In preparation for that time,
you just got to learn to say:
Yeh mon! Do you want a conversation?
Yeh mon! Do you want to eat?
Yeh mon! Do you want to smoke some reefer?
Yeh mon! Do you want a drink?

Visiting Jamaica has opened up my eyes
I now feel a sudden urge to simplify my life.
Living on the island, I would find tranquility
except for those hurricanes, that life could work for me.

Take a trip to Jamaica at any time of year.
You're bound to find good weather and dispense with a few of your cares.
You'll see natural beauty near shanties on unpaved roads
but you'll meet friendly people everywhere you go.

But then You'll start to make conversation
and soon you won't understand.
In preparation for that time,
you just got to learn to say: Yeh mon! Do you want to start a party?
Yeh mon! Do you want to dance?
Yeh mon! Do you want to sing a song?
Yeh mon! Do you want romance?
Yeh mon! Do you want a conversation?
Yeh mon! Do you want to eat?
Yeh mon! Do you want to smoke some reefer?
Yeh mon! Do you want a drink?
Yeh mon! Yeh mon!
Yeh mon! Yeh mon!
Yeh mon! Yeh mon!
Yeh mon! Yeh mon!

You're Magic
Music, lyrics, and arrangement by Kevin Marvelle
9/18/04

I see you in my dreams
and I want those dreams to come true.
I want you day and night
so you can turn my darkness in to light.
With you walking by my side,
you make my bad times seem all right
cause you're magic! You're magic!
And if you'll believe in me,
I think you'll set my demons free
cause you're magic! You're magic!

I want to earn your love
and I want that love to endure.
I want you in my life
so you can turn my wrongs in to rights.
Put the smoke and mirrors away.
You can afford to play it straight
cause you're magic! You're magic!
Forget the tricks and break your wand.
You don't need any chants or charms
cause you're magic! You're magic!

You pulled my rabbit from your hat and
read my cards as though the deck was stacked.
You took my heart without sleight of hand
and captured my soul without illusions.

I have fallen under your spell.
I sense the supernatural.
Finding you was just my good fortune.
I don't recall drinking your love potions.
I'm seldom fooled by magicians.
I don't believe in superstitions,
but you're magic! You're magic!
I don't feel like I've been cursed.
I don't believe in witchcraft,
but you're magic! You're magic!

You pulled my rabbit from your hat and
read my cards as though the deck was stacked.
You took my heart without sleight of hand
and captured my soul without illusions.

I'm seldom fooled by magicians.
I don't believe in superstitions,
but you're magic! You're magic!
I don't feel like I've been cursed.
I don't believe in witchcraft,
but you're magic! You're magic!
